The Power Within: Embracing God's Call to Action
The Power Within: Embracing God's Call to Action
In a world filled with distractions and false narratives, it's easy to lose sight of our true purpose as believers. But there's a powerful truth that we must remember: we are never alone in our journey of faith. The ascension of Jesus wasn't an ending, but a beginning – the start of a new chapter in God's grand plan for humanity.
When Jesus ascended to heaven, He didn't abandon us. Instead, He took His rightful place at the right hand of the Father as the victorious and reigning King. This moment marked the transition from Jesus' earthly ministry to the empowerment of His followers through the Holy Spirit. It's a reminder that the mission didn't end with Jesus' departure; it was just getting started.
As believers, we're called to action. We're born into a mission – the Great Commission – to go into the world, preach the gospel, and make disciples. But how can we fulfill this calling when we often feel helpless and alone? The answer lies in the promise Jesus gave before His ascension: "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
This power – the Greek word 'dunamis', from which we get 'dynamite' – is not just a gentle nudge. It's an explosive force, a supernatural ability that equips us to be effective witnesses for Christ. When we're baptized in the Holy Spirit, we're immersed in God's fire, receiving a fresh awakening and revival in our spirits.
But here's the catch: we must be willing to wait and prepare ourselves for this outpouring. Just as the disciples were instructed to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father, we too must learn patience and expectancy. This waiting isn't passive; it's an active posture of serving, asking, "Lord, how can I serve you? What do you want me to do?"
In our fast-paced world, waiting can be challenging. We're bombarded with information, much of it negative and discouraging. It's crucial to remember where we get our information from. If we constantly feed on worldly news and social media, we risk missing the good news of what God is doing. Instead, we need to tune into God's frequency, lifting our hands in worship like antennas, ready to receive His messages.
This brings us to an important point: the enemy's tactics. The Bible tells us that our adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Notice the word 'like' – he's an impostor, all roar and no real power over believers. His primary strategy is deception, trying to distract us from the reality of what's happening in the spiritual realm.
How do we combat this? James 4:7 gives us the formula: "Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you." The order here is crucial. We must first submit to God before we can effectively resist the enemy. Many of us try to resist without fully submitting, wondering why we don't see victory in our lives. True submission means aligning our will with God's, allowing Him to be Lord over every area of our lives.
As we submit and resist, we'll find ourselves empowered to be witnesses for Christ. But what does being a witness look like? It's not just about preaching from a stage. It's about testifying to God's goodness and faithfulness in our daily lives. It's about being ready to share the hope we have, whether we're in our "Jerusalem" (our immediate surroundings), our "Judea and Samaria" (slightly further afield), or to the ends of the earth.
This call to witness isn't just for a select few. Every believer is equipped and called to this task. The question is, where is your Jerusalem? Who has God placed in your immediate sphere of influence? Don't wait for someone else to reach them – you are called and empowered for this very purpose.
Remember, what you believe and how much you believe it directly impacts how much of God's power works in you. If you find yourself struggling with unbelief or doubt, immerse yourself in God's Word. Let it wash over you, renewing your mind and strengthening your faith. When you encounter seemingly hopeless situations, speak life into them. Declare God's promises over your circumstances, just as Ezekiel spoke to the valley of dry bones.
In closing, let's not forget that there's always more to the story when it comes to God's plan. Just as the crucifixion wasn't the end, neither was the ascension. We're living in the continuing narrative of God's redemptive work in the world. And the exciting part? We get to play a role in it.
So, don't just stand there gazing into heaven, wondering what to do next. The King of Kings has your back. You're not alone in this journey. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. You have been given power – dunamis power – to be a witness for Christ.
It's time to step out in faith, to be unashamed of the gospel, to embrace the fullness of what God has for you. Whether that means being baptized in the Holy Spirit, stepping out in the gifts He's given you, or simply sharing your faith with a neighbor, know that God is with you. He's calling you into action, empowering you with His Spirit, and inviting you to be part of His incredible, ongoing story.
Will you answer the call? Will you say, "Lord, here I am. Use me"? The adventure of a lifetime awaits. There's more to come – will you be ready for it?
